I understand that this is one of their more unremarkable records, but I'm still surprised by how inconsistent it is. The opening track was fantastic, Cool It Down was nice, but everything up to Lonesome Cowboy Bill just sucked. Then it got good again.
I never heard a less catchy pop-rock album than this, with the exception of Who Loves the Sun of course. Somehow it isn't terrible though.

Step down from Doolittle but I still like it quite a bit. It also has some of my favorite Pixies songs. The thing is just that this doesn't really sound like the Pixies for the most part, y'know?
Favorites: Ana, Allison, Velouria, Dig for Fire, Blown Away

This album is fucking incredible, why isn't it rated higher? It's such a perfect tracklist of snappy rock songs, and not a single one is here to waste your time (except for Silver, that song doesn't belong on here). This is a fantastic album and an infinitely stronger effort than Surfer Rosa, I freaking love this thing. It's like an alt-rock beatles album.
Favorites: Wave of Mutilation, Here comes your man, Tame, Mr. Grieves, Crackity Jones, No 13 Baby, Hey

I've been meaning to listen to more bowie for a while. This album got me really excited for the title track. I mean look at that, 99? That's a pretty big score to have for a song.
It didn't disappoint. Heroes is one of the best songs I have ever heard.
That aside, this album is quite incredible. This sound is so ahead of its time IMO, and the songs themselves are fantastic.
Sense of Doubt feels very out of place with the rest of this album, since it's sinister and pseudo-orchestral while the ... read more
This is certainly a unique soundscape. Sounds so noisy yet barren of sound at the same time. The band's description on spotify is pretty accurate. The songwriting is actually pretty incredible at some parts, but it still remains very simple. Good but simple, it's definitely my thing. This album definitely has a punk vibe to it. Also, the album has a noticeable shift after "Where is my mind?", and honestly it's for the worst

This is a very standard metal album with a few highlights. Nothing much more to say. Kind of a slug to go through IMO. Overall good.

Both the worst and best album I've ever heard. Most songs are amazing, some have the type of beats you'd hear in those meme "we making it out da hood" producer videos. To comment on the production, it's objectively bad but doesn't really worsen the listening experience. But I understand if you're bothered by it.
Anyway, I love this thing. I thought it was gonna be overrated or a super acquired taste but nah it's fucking great. Has some of the best songs from both of these artists ... read more
This album is very confused. It doesn't understand what it's trying to be at all. It started as a mediocre trap album, then just went to rock music for some fucking reason, and there's an acoustic lullaby on here? I wouldn't mind it if it was good, I guess, but the music on here ain't good.
Aside from Right Now. That song is a bit generic but it's actually pretty good. Denzel Curry kills his verses btw, as expected.
Favorites: Right Now
Least favorite: Summer Rain, Lullaby, Fight Fight, etc.
I love what this album means for the group, though I find this project weaker than their debut. Gecs' willingness to switch up their sound completely while still unequivocally being themselves is a great sign. Not to mention that Hollywood Baby is probably their most impressive song too. I also caught a little New Wave influence in Doritoes & Fritos. I like how they take their influences and mold them into this mess, that really couldn't have come from anybody else.

27 minutes of silence confuses me. And here I was ready for an absolute banger. That long segment of silence brings the score down a lot, but otherwise this is a pretty decent metal album. I really liked the hidden track... just too bad I can't add it to my playlist.

This album is a hidden gem, emphasis on the "hidden" and "gem".
I am blown away by this. I only checked this thing out cuz the cover was really good, but was greeted with once of the greatest prog-jazz-rock-funk fusions I've ever heard. The music here is so intricate, fun, and experimental in its instruments that it not only never leaves you bored through it's hour+ run time, but constantly excited for what's gonna pop up next. It's mostly high-energy, but there are mellow ... read more
Ah, i'm getting it now.
Blur seems to have always been this sort of... power pop group? Well clearly it isn't power pop, but that's the closest I can relate it to. Very poppy songs with heavy instrumentation is power pop to me.
Yeah this is a good album. I'm just kind of sad it opened with Girls and Boys, because the album never matched that song in its runtime. I do like how the album ends though. As seemingly out of place Lot 105 is, I appreciate its goofiness.

Interesting experience this album was. It's a bit poppy but also quite experimental at times. it's also pretty damn dark. I will say, I'm surprised at how consistent this album ended up being, I was expecting to only like the first 2 and maybe a few more.
Favorites: Bettlebum, Song 2, Look Inside America, Theme from Retro, Movin' on

Incredible. Absolute must-have experience for any fan. Deaner kills the solos and the expressions the band members make are priceless. Love the crowd too.
This is the last Steely Dan album I'll bother to check out.
This is a good album, but the weakest Dan album I've heard. I don't really know why it is, it just feels like the songs had less care put into them. Might just be me though, I don't know.
I had a really good experience listening to this band. And y'know what? I think they'll stick with me for a while. I like their attitude a lot.
Favorites: Black Friday, Your Gold Teeth II

Bodhisattva is the best opening track I've heard from Steely Dan. The raw musicianship and groove on that song is unlike anything in their discography, it's fantastic.
This is yet another solid Steely Dan release. I'm honestly astounded by the consistency. Much like its predecessor, this album struggles from the songs being just a little too long, and I honestly feel like some tracks go nowhere at times. However, this is a very strong crop of tracks overall with some of Steely Dan's ... read more
Steely dan shoot for far catchier songwriting on this album, with a few songs even having acoustic domination in them. In my opinion, it works, but it's worse than what Dan have done before. I also really appreciate the purely instrumental track on here, it's good. An album composed of B-tiers galore, with Rikki Don't Lose That Number being a particular high point.
Favorite: Rikki don't lose that number.

I've come to realize it isn't post-punk that these guys were really doing. That's because post-punk is 50 different genres defined as one.
Nah, I don't really know what The Strokes do musically, despite all the tags being indicators. They make music that remind me of country rock fusions that put a lot, LOT more emphasis on the rock portion, and are only country in their vocals. It isn't a good description at all it's just how I view it.
I'll tell you right now that my music taste has matured a ... read more
Even on their debut, elements of jazz were instilled in their music, just on a much, much smaller scale.
So, to be honest, though I really like this album, some tracks are just too long. Midnite Cruiser is a great example. I swear to god that song just faded in the background after a while, but maybe that's just me being bad at listening to music.
Anyway, when this album is good, it is damn good. When it's not, it's just kinda boring. Most of the songs on here are good, but even then there's ... read more
