A loose concept album about days in the week, and while I’d say it achieves that idea, the results are just a little bit mixed. Nothing’s bad per se, it’s all quite good, but everything else on this record kinda pales in comparison to the absolute powerhouse tracks of Blooming Day, Sweet Dreams, Thursday, & one of my absolute favorite KPOP songs of all time, Vroom Vroom. That said, I think the very futuristic and sleek sound of EXO comes out a lot on this record in a very ... read more
This album feels like it has a more laid-back sound in comparison to their other music, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and although it’s a generally enjoyable experience, this record feels a little bit flat and one-dimensional in between any of the really good songs here. Still worth checking out though.
Twice take on very tight & bombastic production and a bunch of fast-paced bangers, which they definitely excel at on this album.
Definitely the most unusual and unconventional project I’ve heard from TWICE, with a markedly dark-ish sound and more influences from EDM, Latin music, and more. It definitely sticks the landing although sometimes something feels like it’s missing. I like most of these songs on their own, or a few at a time, but the whole album can feel a little bit eh to get through. Overall though, good project.
It’s very good. Def my favorite TWICE project also the first kpop album I ever listened to. The songwriting & production is fairly simple but effective, and the whole project is just fun and carefree. Track 12 is the only *maybe* skip.
They went in the studio and all said in unison “ok we’re going to make the best pop songs physically possible within the confines of this studio” and did exactly that.
But on a more serious note yeah this absolutely kills, it’s a mix of straight bangers like Sweet Crazy Love & Girl Front vs more chill R&B focused songs like Chaotic & Starlight and they execute all of it perfectly. Quintessential fun album. Production still sounds futuristic and hasn’t ... read more
I like So What (somehow) & 365 but this is such a weird project and the other songs just don’t do it for me. It seems like it’s possibly trying for a more aggressive sound at times, which I’m all for, but it doesn’t really commit most of the time and when it doesn’t, it tends to be subpar .
Feels like a more focused yet also eclectic, experimental, and emotional take on the sound of DIE FOR MY BITCH. Probably one of the most mature and fascinating trap albums I’ve ever listened to.
Their best project. Everything hits so hard and aggressive yet has so much depth and complexity in the songwriting. The atmosphere feels very coded and hard to piece together, but even if it takes a few listens, eventually the bizzare & perfectly calculated tone of this album just HITS.
It’s probably their most experimental album, and their most stereotypically “prog” sounding album. While the first 6 tracks on this album are some of the best songs they’ve ever recorded, the back half feels kind of inconsistent and doesn’t live up to it quite as much even if they’re still really good. This album really has an energetic, vengeful, and atmospheric tone that sets it apart from every other album they’ve made. Definitely check this one out ... read more
This is the album where they started to really experiment. There’s a lot of variety on this album but it still maintains a really fun, fast-paced, & chilled out tone even during the heavier songs or the ones that delve into drone rock. Definitely the album from them I recommend starting with.
It’s a quite well-made post-punk album. Hits that brutalist, kinda grim musical vibe perfectly while still having that touch of fun. Plus they hit the lo-fi production just perfect. Also, it’s more poppy and hook-focused than traditional post-punk, which may be off-putting to some, but I think Molchat Doma can write incredibly catchy hooks that don’t take away from the vibe this album goes for. It’s derivative but that doesn’t mean it isn’t incredibly well ... read more
First three quarters or so of the album are just a party all the way through. The songs and instrumentals are a lot more simple than an album like Jeffery or BTG, but that doesn’t stop any of those songs from being an absolute bop, and this album has some of Thugger’s best flows. There’s a big variety of production on this album, it makes the album experience kind of feel like a garden. The last few tracks are a little more mixed in quality, with some misses, but overall I ... read more
Following up a masterpiece like Jeffery is incredibly difficult, even more so when trying to take that project and incorporate… country influences of all things. However this is certainly a worthy successor! If I’m being honest, outside of the opening track (which is a damn BANGER), the country influences aren’t really all that apparent on this album. It’s a really good Young Thug trap album, albeit with a slightly more morose atmosphere at times. The hooks here are ... read more
One of the greatest trap projects of all time. The production on this albums somehow hits all the perfect melodies, atmospheres, and *hardness*. On top of that, Thugger, while he does have some hard bars, has probably the most insane & talented vocal performances in all of trap music. He can do anything from just rapping with god-tier flows, to serenading you with these incredible melodic high notes, to just making crazy voices and sounds for the fuck of it. The whole vibe of this album is ... read more
This album is basically just very tender, small looping sounds (a lot of the samples used on this albums sound like instruments trailing off and reverberating out at the end of a song) that are manipulated in extremely subtle ways to give them a real sense of rhythm, complexity, and depth in spite of how stark and minimalist this album sounds. In fact, this is probably the most minimalist music on the planet and idk how you could break it down even more.
