David Bowie - "Heroes"
93

With one of the best opening three tracks in Bowie history (maybe since Ziggy Stardust or The Man Who Sold The World), this album may lack the thematic consistency of Bowie's best work, and it does get a little too safe for my personal taste, and does tend to tred on Lows toes a little to hard, but it's Bowie going for his well deserved victory lap. In his eyes, he's seen the horrors of his own life, and now is in a better place. He has become his own personal hero, and his self celebratory pat ... read more

David Bowie - Low
95

This album is bonkers. It's Station To Station, but much more self aware, much more consistent, and much more experimental. Introducing synths into Bowie's already eclectic and strange sound, it really feels like the most honest and transparent record he's ever made, expressing exactly how he was feeling at the time with the weapons he has: Sound and Vision. And this album has got both the sound (housing some of the best musicianship and musical structures of Bowie career) and the artistic ... read more

The Postal Service - Give Up
76

Damn. Glitched out, distant and gorgeously arranged electronic music, with some somewhat corny yet emotional lyrics backed up by some of the best production and beats that I have heard in a while. It's really beautifully constructed, with the electronic elements giving a distant approach to them, so when the more organic elements come into play it makes it feel all the more human. With lyrics extremely telling of Benjamin Gibbard's personal fears and anxiety. It's an extremely interesting and ... read more

David Bowie - Station to Station
96

Saying this album is influenced by cocaine is like saying the sky is blue. It's manic, deranged, so detached from reality that it sometimes is astounding the music is this good. It's funky, fun and colorful, while still feeling insane and mentally detached. It sounds like a darker, leaner, much more threatening and depressing version of Young Americans. Bowie here replaces his usual casual swagger with a terrified and genuinely emotional performance that is still haunting to this day. It's not ... read more

David Bowie - Young Americans
86

While the step into this more funky and commercial direction was a choice that was odd by itself, the album that decision comes with is nothing short of fun dancy bliss. It's an album that fully embraces it's soulful influences (maybe too much to some degree) and molds Bowie in an almost werewolf-esq transformation state from glam rock god to earnest and soulful RnB artist. However, it's a step that felt necessary, with the music feeling deeply inspired and fun. It's not just Bowie doing funk, ... read more

David Bowie - Diamond Dogs
88

Somehow post apocalyptic yet as alive as any of his other projects, Diamond Dogs is one of Bowies most thought out and fully conceptualized concepts to date, with some of the most potent and politically charged statements to date. It's also got some of Bowies best musically structured, with some of Bowies best vocals to ever be recorded, and multi-part transitions that make for a fun and quacked out listen. Hell, there is really only 7 true songs on the whole album, but they are some of Bowies ... read more

David Bowie - Aladdin Sane
89

Theatrical. Glamourus. Classical. Heavy. Scary. Intense. Emotional. This album is kinda wild. It's got all the strange lyrical themes and futuristic yet classic songwriting of Bowies previous album, but with a more straightforward blues and jazz tinged sound that has stuck out through Bowies whole discography, but with somehow a more pure rock themed musical listen. It's dramatic, all while being incredibly entertaining. It's a genius piece of music criticizing and glorifying the American ... read more

LCD Soundsystem - american dream
79

While not as disappointing as I expected, it's far from LCD Soundsystems best work. It's lacking in the urgency of their better records and at the same time gaining a lot more filler. There are songs that become extremely repetitive and long-winded. And there are ideas that have been done better in better LCD Soundsystem  But it's not atrocious. I'm still giving this a positive review since it's not technically a bad album. The production is as dense and fun to listen to as ever, and the ... read more

LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening
100

This is LCD Soundsystem at their absolute peak.

It's their most creatively tight, most sonically consistent and their best songwriting to date. From the excellent production (house some of the most technically pleasing soundscapes from the band to date) to the biting, hilarious and emotional lyrical themes, to James Murphy's confidently awkward delivery.

His lyrics are his most earnest then they have ever been, with his delivery becoming causally grand as the record goes on, and it's ... read more

LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
96

LCD Soundsystem sounds like if the Talking Heads were made in the digital age, and I love it. For an album made over 10 years ago, it somehow still sounds fresh, original, interesting, dancable, oddly emotional, vivid, dense, exciting, and all the more important: fun as hell. From the earnest lyrics to the off the wall and groovy production. The lyrics are nihilistic but never depressing, with an interesting juxtaposition between the groovy nature of the music. It's a airey, more mellow affair ... read more

The 1975 - Music for Cars
65

I think it's clear that they found out how to use a synthesizer on this EP. It's atmosphere is drenched in a more soft and delicate soundscape this time around, with the EP feeling dainty and lush, with some genuinely beautiful arrangements and a much bigger emphasis on instrumental arrangements. Good sleeping music, but only slightly boring.

Favorite Jams: Chocolate, Me, Heads.Cars.Bending

Lest Favorite: HNSCC

The 1975 - Facedown EP
72

Much more moody and gothic then anything else that the band has done, it's also one of their more straightforward releases. It's full on with it's atmospheric and gloomy soundscape, that it's honestly shocking the amount of coherency on a debut EP. It's a good listen if you've got time to spare.

Favorite Jams: Antichrist, The City, Women

Lest Favorite: Facedown

The 1975 - Sex EP
77

From the glitched out beginnings to the more rock infused Sex, it's a EP that showcases the brooding and Gothic styling of what would become the most talked about band in the UK. It's pretty interesting for the curiosity factor, and it does house some of The 1975s best tracks. If you want something smooth and atmospheric, here is something short and sweet.

Favorite Jams: You, Sex, Milk

Lest Favorite: Intro/Set3

Earl Sweatshirt - Some Rap Songs
74

This record is kinda interesting As a whole, this album is highly impressive. This record feels like a giant rap song, with many different beat switches and interesting flows. It's lyrics deal with depression and anxiety, and the more listens you give to this album the more you'll appreciate it's dark and maic approach to song structure. There might not be that many stand-out tracks, but as a whole, SRS is a well produced trip into Earl's mind. It's a album that rewards relistens, with some of ... read more

LCD Soundsystem - LCD Soundsystem
91

While somewhat bloated and needing of some cuts to the album, LCDs debut is something really special. Catchy, dancable and exciting techno rock that will get your blood pumping. From it's interesting choices in productions to it's distant and distinctive vocals, it's a truely unique album with tracks that you have to come back again and again, with songs so catchy they will be in your head for years, with an ambitious amount of sounds and styles that make up this double disk record.

The first ... read more

The Book Of Knots - Garden of Fainting Stars
84

This thing is wild. Both cosmic and post apocalyptic, it's an album that sounds like steampunk Gothic techno nightmares, a fever dream of oddness and pitch black humor, with talented guests fleshing out the music to it's fullest form. It's endlessly creative and astonishingly well made, that will have you scratching your head in the best possible way. Listen to this one at the dead of night for the best possible experience.

Lizzo - Boys
93

Absolute banger. One of my favorite stand alone tracks from the year.

Tiny Meat Gang - Locals Only
34

How can a mixtape this short have this much filler? Like, I remember about about 3 songs off this record, and it's only got 7 real tracks, with the rest of it being boring, unentertaining trap music for teenagers to unironically vibe to. Hell, the most memorable, funniest and best track (Stay Safe) is only 1 minute and 30 seconds long. It's not like it's beyond saving, it just feels like very little real creative effort went into this project, a problem that plauged their last EP. Tiny Meat ... read more

Aunty Donna - The Album
60

It's fine. When your listening, it's a pretty decent and pretty funny comedy album. But the album does come across very hit or miss, with self deprecating filler flooding the album. There are some moments on the album that do commit the cardinal sin of having no jokes (i.e. Aunty Donna Theme and Silly Sounding Song) but when it does try it's borderline hilarious. Give it a try if you want a chuckle.

Plus it's got a King Gizzard feature.

Favorite Jams: Professor Wiskers, (Walking On Someone) ... read more

Parquet Courts - Wide Awake!
79

Sounding like a more funky The Clash, but with the same bite and the same punch-in-the-face energy that makes for an infectious and fun listening experience, with smart and revolutionary lyrics that scream for change. It hops from topic to topic, making the overall theme seeming lost at times, but the music is always consistently good.

Yeah, it's pretty in your face stuff, but not in the way you'd think. It's in your face not with glaringly loud guitars and fast as hell songs. It's in your ... read more

"@SamHatedSBTH Joy as an Act of Resistance is an absolute essential record, so that's probably where i'd direct a newcomer. If they like that album then its down to what they really liked from it: - If they want something more raw, go with Brutalism - If they want something more catchy, go Ultra Mono - If they loved the songwriting and emotional moments, go Crawler And once they've bounced around, TANGK is a culmination of new sounds that help the band go towards the future. Best of luck!"

While I still love listening to this record, and adore how dense it is, now I'm more acquainted with the band and Post-Rock music, it just didn't feel right to have at a 100. Still, a great album!"

"Honestly it's got some of their better poppier stuff in a little bit (at least since Cool Patrol which has now dawned on me came out 6 years ago) but going back to the Strawberries And Cream era writing is a choice. Kinda wished that they stuck with the Prog Band about Dick Jokes they carved out on The Prophecy honestly"
