Devo - Freedom of Choice
89

This album is much more then just 'the album with Whip It'. A much more accessible and pop-centric with loosing their eccentricities, Devo manage to do the impossible: make a pop punk record without loosing the energy and memorability. The performances are still great, with some of the group catchiest tracks to date, and it's full of flavor and fun that you wont find anywhere else. Track by track it's got memorable, interesting and dancable tracks, making it the party record for weirdos. While ... read more

Devo - Duty Now for the Future
80

If Devos last album was a kicking down the door introduction, this is Devo forcing the listener into the future full force, with blaring synthesizers and even stranger lyrical topics. The intrumentation is at full force here, with the synths taking up a huge portion of this record. Hell, there are some tracks with nothing but synth. But it still works with the already odd sound that Devo have created. While not nearly as good as their debut (then again how do you beat that debut record) it's ... read more

Swans - Swans
81

Binging Swans was a good idea. If anything this reminds me of a even more wacked out Devo. The post-punk vibe I get from this record is slap in the face fantastic. The technical bass playing, the screeching saxaphones, the detuned distorted guitars, the in your face vocals. Its ferocious, aggressive and uniquly odd yet intricate, detailed and expensive. It's a fantastic debut (if not a little samey), and a large stepping stone.from one of the most interesting bands out.

Dream Theater - Falling into Infinity
61

Metropolis Pt. 2 better give me $15 million US, a car a blowjob and a decent cookie with all the schlock I've gone through with these early Dream Theater albums.

The big consensus of my opinion of Dream Theater (at lest their early work) is that while technically it's pretty good, it's pretty lackluster. My big gripe with this album is that, while it does house some really great stuff in it (Burning My Soul is a banger) it's far too bloated for me to really give it the proper time I would give ... read more

Lil Pump - Harverd Dropout
NR

I'm saying this once. I wont say it again. I'm not listening to Lil Pumps album. No matter how goddamn good it is. I'm not going to. You may be asking yourself, "Why post a review then?". And that's a good question.

The Claypool Lennon Delirium - South of Reality
67

Do you guys like prog ass prog? While not as good as their previous album, this is still a solid outing from two absolute weirdos. The bass as per usual is fun and bouncy, the synths are much more prominent on this outing, and the guitars are nice, if not taking a bit of a back seat to accompany the newly prominent synths. The title doesn't lie, this thing is definitely on the quirky side (especially lyrically). Hell, there is a whole song dedicated to guys on Tinder (and no, I don't know how I ... read more

HEALTH & JPEGMAFIA - HATE YOU
71

I AM FUCKING ACCENDING.

WHY WASN'T THIS LONGER.

THIS COULD HAVE BEEN BANGER OF THE YEAR.

Edit: That was really cool, but Jesus it really could have benefited from a longer track length. These two seem like the perfect combo.

Machine Girl - WLFGRL
77

Really interesting. A wild and electric compilation of wild, intense, technical and out of this world Japanese electronic that verges on Insanity. It's something that both calms and overwhelms you, a breath of fresh air and a stab in the back. The track individually don't really lend themselves to memorablity, but it's more of an experience then it is a collection of tracks. It's sounds exactly like what the cover sounds like. Wild. Animalistic. Aggressive. Fun. BDSM like. While it's a little ... read more

Xiu Xiu - Girl with Basket of Fruit
94

Before: First Xiu Xiu album, I cannot wait! I remember liking the Sharp Dressed Man cover they did :)

After: There is a sharp pain in my arm. I'm nearly 100% that the album caused that. And I fucking love it.

Ok, for those thinking that this is the 'scariest album ever', it's not. This album is weird, odd, strange and definitely not for the faint of heart, but it's not scary (at lest it's not in parts, Mary Turner Mary Turner is fucking crazy disturbing, Crash ... read more

Devo - Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!

I'm ascending listening to this album. This is some of the best new wave, post-punk, energetic goofball stuff I've heard in a long time. Each member not only is pulling all the weight, with everything firing off all directions at a blistering speed. It's not the most 'punk' album, but goddamn is it fun. From the weird lyrical topics, to the strange genre influences from the Beach Boys to Dead Kennedys, it's a giant album from weirdos to weirdos. Hell, the album was produced by both Brian Eno ... read more

Annoying Orange - Emoji Raps

I looked myself in the mirror today.
I didn't like what I saw.
I didn't see me.
I didn't see a person.
I just saw...this lifeless body.
A figure in the distance that I couldn't touch.
A piece of flesh, numb to any touch.
I'm no longer myself.
I'm no longer anything.
I just uttered a simple phrase.
A plea.
A call for help.
"Hey what's up, it's Annoying Orange back with another gaming video."

WILLY4M - Delta

(like I did the fist time, just to get all biases out of the way, i'm friends with the artist who made this album, and i'm being completely honest in my judgement of my album. When I say this album is good, I mean it's dope. I respect him as an artist and a human to give him my full criticism. If this seems like it's up your ally, please support him and his label Cult Gang)

I'm not trying to suck up to my friend when I say this album is dope. Because I genuinely really dig this record. Delta ... read more

Dream Theater - Awake
55

Technically it's an immensely intricate (if not slightly show-offy) type record, with lots of aggressively nerdy prog metal moments sprinkled to confuse and astound metal listeners everywhere. And the cheese from the last record (while still being here in full cheese mode) is much more suppressed, and some genuinely emotional tracks show themselves on this particular record. And, surprisingly, it's got some catchy melodies and a much bigger sense of groove. However, it does tend to drag a bit ... read more

87

Ouch. This is 17 minutes of pure, unadulterated heavy ass heavy music. It's a small pocket of pure rage and anger, with the whole album almost being a whole song (a blisteringly heavy song). Each instrument is used as a goddamn weapon, and it feels like every member is going to kill me, chop my body up and hide those parts in the woods (in a good way). It might be a little lenient on the content side (I would be a hypocrite if I said that this album was a good length and then said Kids See ... read more

Marc Rebillet - Loop Daddy
83

A smaller sized but still fantastically crafted collection of fun, funny, catchy, energetic and highly entertaining improv-synth-funk bliss that is equally as impressive as it is hilarious. It's almost impossible to see this type of music being done by any other artist, from the quriky lyrics to the high end production. It's a fun, weird and hilarious. Give it a try if you haven't already.

Röyksopp - Melody A.M.

(500 REVIEWS BABY, also shout out Zach AKA Thanos yet again for the recommendation)

Pretty nice. In a similer vain to DJ Shadow, early Daft Punk records or The Chemical Brothers, Royksopp provide catchy, dancable, at times experimental, interesting and entertaining electronic pieces that, while extremely pleasant on the ears, doesn't do much for me in terms of 'omf' factor. I will give credit to this record where it's due, Royksopp are much more musically diverse then your usual electronica ... read more

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Cyboogie
88

King Gizzard doing electornica tinged bangers doesn't seem like the best idea in theory (with various bands last year failing at this) but this track is fantastic. From the spacey, sci-fi tinged synths to the minimalist guitar work and thumping drums, it's a track that you'll want to blast loud when doing acid.

Mike Patton - Mondo Cane
88

The great thing about diving into a Mike Patton project is that you have no idea what your going to get. You could get equal parts a death metal album, a hip-hop record, a album that's just 30 minutes of weird sound effects or all of the above. Here, it's a collection of breathtaking covers from italian pop music, backed up by an orchestra. You'd think it would be a pretty straight forward collection of tracks, but remember this is still Mike Patton, and his signature voice and weirdness is ... read more

"@SamHatedSBTH Joy as an Act of Resistance is an absolute essential record, so that's probably where i'd direct a newcomer. If they like that album then its down to what they really liked from it: - If they want something more raw, go with Brutalism - If they want something more catchy, go Ultra Mono - If they loved the songwriting and emotional moments, go Crawler And once they've bounced around, TANGK is a culmination of new sounds that help the band go towards the future. Best of luck!"

While I still love listening to this record, and adore how dense it is, now I'm more acquainted with the band and Post-Rock music, it just didn't feel right to have at a 100. Still, a great album!"
