At some point when I started going through King Gizzards discography, I thought that i'd be able to listen to them all by the time the new album comes out. Yeah that worked out well...
Anyway, I had pretty low expectations for this album. Mellow King Gizz isn't really my favorite type of sound from King Gizz (more of a personal thing I know but still something to note), so I really wanted this album to just be done as soon as it started...but then the more I listened and opened my mind to King ... read more
Jesus Christ i'm late for this album. Why did everything decide to come out the day I take a week long break?
Right from the get go, I knew this thing was right up my ally. A Irish punk band being compared to Idles, one of my favorite recent post punk acts being praised for its honesty and wild instrumentation? Sounds like a grand time! And so you know I was excited to dive into this album, like a toddler at the shallow pool. But, much like the toddler at the swimming pool, I learnt that this ... read more
Ladies. Gentlemen. This album is fucked up. Like, holy shit. This shit is fucking WILD.
So I knew about this album through word of mouth (being a influence from acts like Mr Bungle and Nine Inch Nails, as well as many 'extreme' acts I've loved). I knew it was a very weird album. So, when Record Store Day rolled around, I found this album lying around (white vinyl with stickers!) for only $20. I should have known what I was in for when the person I bought this off looked at me and said ... read more
Jesus, God, Lord in the tittyfucking Heavens I wish this was just 3 really long tracks. This album, as i'll state, is extremely good, but JESUS CHRIST does splitting the three tracks up like this help anyone? I guess for newcomers it makes the songs easier to digest, but sooner or later they are just gonna become accustomed to these THREE LONG SONGS and just listen to the album like so. It's a damn shame that we don't have a version that is just three long songs, at lest on streaming. It would ... read more
I have tried listening to this album 5 goddamn times all the way through. I thought that i'd be able to listen to this while working on a school assessment to get into the mind-space, but somehow this album pulls me out of doing working like it's nothing. It's not the albums fault: the music isn't really taking me out of a working mindset in any musical way. It's just as soon as I get to Sleep Drifter, my mind seems to wander into Twitter on anything else ASIDE from what i'm actually supposed ... read more
So, I was going to make a le epic funny review on this album, say something along the lines of "Annoying Orange does the funny yet again! He looking kinda fresh in that hat doe :0" but right now I feel I should use this review to say a single statement:
We seriously have to fix the bots on this site. Like, Christ. It's absurd how easy it is for bots to get to the front page on this site in it's current state. Genuine creators and hard working individuals are being pushed aside by ... read more
This is a fine song. I respect Lil Nas X for pushing for his creative freedom being brought into the mainstream and working, but this song does very little for me. It's not a bad song, just very out of my tastes.
So story time.
In my small town, around this time of year, there is a small record fair that goes around town. It's not really anything huge, just a small little place for vinyl collectors to get together to buy some rare pressings. It's a neat little gathering. Anyway, this year, there was a small little section for singles. My curiosity got the better of me, and I plowed through what they had to offer.
Then I found this little piece of history: a small vinyl single of the goddamn moon ... read more
Talk about a punch in the face...
This album caught me the fuck by surprise, and I do mean literally. I found this while talking to a friend on Discord, (burying yourself in Bandcamp leads to odd places my friends) and out of pure boredom I gave it a listen. The second I opened this album, I was greeted with a luscious and gorgeous arrangement of old synthesizers that made me feel like I was in a bootlegged copy of The Dark Crystal. It was comforting, and washed over me as if I was falling ... read more
Nonagon Infinity opens the door. Nonagon Infinity opens the door. Wait for the answer to open the door. Nonagon Infinity opens the door.
Yep. You read that rating right. I've officially given into the Gizzverse. And who can really blame me? This album is like a damn drug! It's a explosive, gigantic, mesmerizing, epic, enchanting, never-ending mountain of prog-rock goodness that is the heavy gift that keeps on giving. It's a dusty, evil and endlessly entertaining record that has got a firm hand ... read more
This is one of the most homely and wholesome albums i've heard in a long time.
This album is cute with a capital C. It's a relaxing, wholesome and generally ear pleasing ride that's biggest motive is to make people just feel good on the inside. It's like listening to a soundtrack to a childrens TV show (helped by that amazing cover art), all while Stu is singing about what comes after death, money, and many other extensional nightmares. It's wholesome exterior only help underline the thick ... read more
Can someone make a site similer to albumoftheyear.org but for film? Thanks.
I'll keep this one short. Even thought this is Michael's second film score to date, this still is a very well made piece of film scoring. It's usage in the film is extremely hard hitting, creating a uneasy atmosphere and dark tone throughout the film that plays well with the films dark plot and anxiety filled visuals. Hell, both I've Got 5 On It and Anthem's usage in the film reminded me a lot of the main theme of ... read more
I listen to music that The Bald Man tells me to, The Bald Man is never wrong unless he is in which case we riot.
Ok but jokes aside, i'm glad Anthony introduced me to this album. With a genre like Nu-Jazz, I had literally no idea what to expect with this album. I'm a relative new comer to the world of jazz, let alone it's new contemporary. What journey would this record take me on, I wondered. An ethereal, tech heavy take on classical jazz? A sporadic, off the wall experiment from the future? ... read more
This album is lush as fuck.
This album is surprisingly dreamy. It's a lot more subdued and melancholic then other Xiu Xiu releases, with the songwriting reminding me of their debut Knife Play. It's a slow burner for sure, but it also sounds very violently childlike, much like the album cover would describe. It's much more intentionally somber and atmospheric listen then any other Xiu Xiu album (which is really saying something). It doesn't have the most emotional lyrics, but the musical ... read more
So many people have told me over the years how this album is a absolute game changing masterpiece. 'It's a 10/10' one person said. 'It's the Mona Lisa of post-punk' another says. And, after giving it several listens and giving it the proper time it required, I can say that it is...pretty OK.
The performances, dynamics and instrumentation is really pleasant on the ears. It a tight, compact, interesting, and engaging package of 40 minutes of outstanding passion and talent. The writing here is ... read more
What better way to follow up a review of a super big pop record then to talk about a niche ass experimental prog-metal record? Christ, no wonder i'm single...
This album is super goddamn creative, and kinda batshit. It's calming, furious, atmospheric, gentle, harsh, aggressive, catchy, and...by god this album is nearly all of the tricks in the book! It's a strange album to talk about, because there is so much to talk about, from the mixing of different theatrical genres (electronic, death ... read more
You guys ready for one sentence reviews that make penis jokes or jokes based on the album name or artist name that get 50 likes because of that epic funny haha but overall the only thing contributing to the albums discussion is the rating? Anyway this album is poopoo peepee pretty good.
Ok, this album isn't a classic. Hell no. It's the most accessable and easy to digest 'dist0rted and edgy!!!!1!' album to come of this year, and if you've spent enough time in this genre of emo pop, then ... read more
Holy fuck sorry for so many reviews about album not a lot of people care about. I usually do these reviews after the third or second listen to these albums, and just recently i've found myself with a lot of free time to make these reviews. On the other, I know that i'm annoying some of you with the constant stream of paragraph long reviews. But, I do these reviews at the speed of when I find new and exciting music. So, thanks for sticking with me, and thanks to the reviewers on this site that ... read more
This is the first album that I can vividly remember that made me cry.
I don't know what it is about this album, but when I started digging into the lyrics sheet for this thing, I was bawling my brains out. Little Panda Mcelroy broke me in a way a song hasn't done in a very long time. And that's saying something. It's a emotional record. It's a record that makes you really feel, it doesn't matter if that feeling was positive or negative, all that matters is that you felt something true and ... read more
when they said MURDER MURDER MURDER MURDER MURDER MURDER KILL KILL KILL, I felt that.
I seriously don't understand what all the hate is about. This album goddamn slaps harder then a chair being hit in the back of my head. As soon as this thing started, it was like a shotgun blast to the face of high intensity energy that didn't let up for a single second, while still never having the listener out of breath. It's a exciting listen, but never becomes overbearing in its intensity. While i'm not ... read more
