My 100th review! I'm celebrating by reviewing one of the most acclaimed albums of all time; OK Computer!
This album is very great, yet I feel as though it's been overhyped. It's crazy to give an album a 9/10 and say it's overrated, but I've heard so much praise for this album, that I was expecting it to be a life-changing experience, and it's just... really great but completely mind-blowing. I think a large reason for this is because OK Computer was probably very groundbreaking for the time, ... read more
First things first, respect to everyone who likes this album! Despite the fact that this is a site where people are intended to share their opinions, people sure hate different opinions. The amount of hate I've seen people get for liking AJR and other artists generally perceived as bad on this site is astonishing, and it sucks that people have been driven off this site for this reason. People are allowed to like what they want, and should feel encouraged to share their opinions!
That being ... read more
(This is solely a review of the remastered tracks, I have a separate review of the original if you want to hear my opinions on this album in general)
I just listened to the original for the first time, thanks to it finally being released on streaming. It's safe to say that The Ghost~Pop Tape is a masterpiece. An incredible album from front to back, a super emotional and impactful album. I love it. However, I've heard some divisive things about the remaster, so I decided to check it out, and ... read more
This may very well be my hottest take on this site yet. I honestly like this track. I like the instrumental and energy of this track and I like the production a lot, despite the occasionally weird parts, like that weird drop in volume on the instrumental during the whispering parts, no clue why they did that.
I'm not huge on the lyricism and usually I find this ultra-edgy vibe that appeals to angsty teens to be obnoxious, especially in other CORPSE songs, but for some reason I don't mind it ... read more
Is this what the end of the world sounds like?
Well, this is a very powerful listen. Kristin Hayter returns with a new album, SAVED!, two years after her previous critically acclaimed album, SINNER GET READY. This new album essentially serves as a sequel to that one, both lyrically and instrumentally, though with a much more obvious gospel influence. And I have to say, Kristin has improved since SINNER GET READY. SAVED! is about Kristin essentially moving on and healing from the abuse that she ... read more
Lift Yourself has an Incredible instrumental... and this is what Kanye did with it, it's so goofy I kinda have to love it. This song is like the most petty diss of all time but it's incredible.
Light 7/10
A beautiful song. The instrumental and production are magical and the lyricism is pretty great here too. I genuinely wonder why it wasn't included on the original Donda, it would've been an amazing inclusion and would've easily been one of the best on the album.
10/10
Javelin is a very solid album, nothing here is really mindblowing for me personally, but I like all of the tracks on this album. I don't find Sufjan's vocals to be all that great honestly, I'm not quite sure exactly why I don't care for the vocals, but I just feel like the vocals could be very much improved. I also feel as if all the songs on this album are way too similar. Due to this, a lot of the tracks don't really stand out and blend together, which ultimately leads to this being a kind of ... read more
This song is honestly kinda good... If you remove the lyrics. I like the production a lot, and the instrumental ain't bad. But MAANN those lyrics kill the song. It's BLATANTLY racist, and the fact that he thought this was a good idea is honestly hilarious to me. WOW. This song sucks.
Light 1/10
Roger Waters' The Snoozefest of the Moon
This is literally taking a beautiful and iconic album, and removing all of the impact and power the original had. I legitimately started falling asleep midway through this thing, it's so uninteresting and boring. This is one of the only albums I've ever heard that literally made me question if I could even make it through the whole thing.
Roger took an iconic album and attempted to make it more meaningful for a modern audience, while simultaneously ... read more
The song is boring, annoying, and the production is bland and generic. Don't care.
Light 3/10
This song is... an experience. Hearing it slowly dissolve into madness is a very great experience. I especially love the section at the end of the song when it chills out again, feels like the aftermath of the craziness that came before it. Such a phenomenal track, really recommend it, one of Gorillaz's best.
10/10
Never really cared for this song back in the day, but after listening to it now. WOW. This is legitimately one of the best Nirvana songs.
The energy in this song is so incredibly raw, and it creates such an intense and heavy atmosphere. It's even more impactful when you consider that this is the last song the band recorded prior to Kurt's death.
This song is legitimately perfect, it has such haunting lyrics and a powerful soundscape that it's honestly kinda difficult to listen to. But man is ... read more
Remember when Jake flexed that he made this song in a single day? Yeah, I believe him. This is bad but admittedly funny, it's an enjoyable listen. Some of the worst lyricism of all time, it's actually impressive how bad it is.
Light 2/10
He knew what he was doing with this title, right?
This EP, as expected, sucks. Though it didn't suck as much as I had anticipated, which is saying something, because it still sucks a lot. This EP pretends like it's profound, but it's just... not.
All the "deep and profound" lyrics feel super forced and there's no passion in the music or the vocals, this whole thing is just a bad corporate cash grab.
The first two tracks are just bad, boring, and forgettable. Paranoid is ... read more
Didn't know Quadeca dropped some singles this year, but this is very great! Easily could be one of his best songs if he improved in some areas though, mainly with better mixing at the end section. But overall I really love the atmosphere, lyrics, and vocal performance.
Light 9/10
God man, what a beautiful album. I listened to this album a few years ago and enjoyed it, but never really returned to it a whole lot. So I thought it'd be good to re-listen to it the whole way through again, and yeah, this album is still stunning.
I'm not gonna go very deep on the lyrics in this, since many other reviewers on this site have done so already, and probably did it much better than I would. But I will say that this is legitimately one of the best albums I've ever heard lyrically. ... read more
Absolutely beautiful, nostalgic, and ethereal. This album feels very nostalgic and melancholic, and I absolutely love the soundscape.
The beginning of part 1 is a very well-executed ambient, sort of eerie-sounding buildup. Until partway in, when the beautiful arpeggio kicks in, and more instrumentation gets added. I also love how this part uses the melody that is later heard in part 5, which feels like they are foreshadowing what's to come, which I think is cool. The vocals that come in ... read more
