This is the classic. Is not the newest sound, or the most incredible piece of music ever made for me, but is the most essential and memorable Aphex Twin album, the one that symbolizes Aphex as a well established producer and music extraordinaire.
Highlights: Xtal, Agiespolis, Heliopsphan, We Are The Music Makers, Delphium.
Ah yes, the album that started it all for my addiction to IDM.
This is the first experience i've got with Aphex Twin a few years ago, where the most I knew about electronic music was that crappy, mainstream EDM that sounded all the same, and I remember thinking at first "this is not electronic music, what". Oh boy, I was so wrong. I want to punch my past me in the face until it lights on fire.
Just two months after, I also discovered more electronic music that were in another step ... read more
GOOBA and TROLLZ are okay, but the rest of thr album is so badly mixed, with so much lack of personality and talent. Is cursed.
It makes me cry. Each. Fucking. Listen. And now even for a lyrical point or anything (well yes, but...), I just cry because of how gorgeous this is.
And the intro is maybe the most potent song ever made. Is terrifying, yet gorgeous; is simple, yet deep and detailed; it got everything... Foe nothing. It brings a basic need as love, it deconstructs love and makes it link with every single aspect we got as a human being, lifting you up and filling you with the most gorgeous piece of music that my ... read more
These guys solidly made one of the most complete discographies ever. It's full of everything: feelings, atmospheres, soundscapes and textures. This album is a solid proof that they never miss, and they continue doing some of the best post-rock material to date.
Highlights: Mladic, We Drift Like Worried Fire.
I got this recommended on the discord server and I just thought "alright i'm listening to that", but being my second bright eyes album, and not enjoying the previous one before this, i don't really know that kind of approach they're going for.
This album feels like a rather uncohesive and unfinished set of tracks, with great highlights, but this album gets too long too fast for me, sadly. The songwriting is on point though.
There's Banshee Beat.
What else could you need besides Banshee Beat?
Tell me WHAT THE FUCK WOULD YOU NEED BESIDES BANSH
Let's look at the bright side of this, it just got better after this point.
Nothing to highlight, just improvised stuff that sounds bad.
Okay, I won't tell you anything about this. Is impossible to me to explain, just to say that this is... This is just something else.
And call me crazy, but the noise aspects af motifs make this album to feel even more psychedelic than what it would be without them.
Highlights: April And The Phantom, Chocolate Girl, La Rapet, Bat You'll Fly, Alvin Row
This is a more meditative listen, way more analytical and smoother than the rest of the trilogy, based on an extremely volatile sound (To Be Kind) and a darker, dense atmosphere (The Seer), and this, the mid-section for the album, brings a balance between these two, a slower approach and a more extensive sound overall.
With a really slow start with the two first songs, this album makes clear this will be a different listen, preparing for a gargantuan, multiphasic and extreme rest of the album. ... read more
I'm just mindblown by how amazing this album is, and i incredibly made in every aspect. I love music, and this is one of the reasons. To know new stuff like this that blows my mind like this, is incredible.
The production is incredible, with a heavy aura on the whole album, surrounding these various instrumental works, from the hypnotic and dystopian Tattooed Man, that is also gripped to the lyrics that shows obsession and lament, going into a disorienting "downwards spiral" and it ... read more
i'm just saying that Sept gave me the biggest eargasm of my life.
This is equivalent to that weird sense of humor where cats with dubstep and lazer eyes were still funny, but it isn't anymore, and it fucking sucks.
Sure... You could just do that.
This was interesting, a lot of ideas, 49 tracks, almost 3 hours of playtime; and this didn't feel long at all. It feels so diverse, it didn't get boring at all on almost all the length of the album, the production is INCREDIBLE, the diverse flavours of this album develop to be an almost formed set of songs, with different structures in every single song, and the disc 1 is so amazing.
Highlights: disk 1, disk 2 and disk 5, lots of songs.
This album is the worst in their trifecta (between Blue Lines, this and Mezzanine), but is amazing, come on.
Is an upgrade in production from Blue Lines, but is a downgrade from it, still. It feels haunting yet inviting, it feels so polished and well made in every aspect, and it still brings surprise in most of the songs. Overall, a great album.
Edit: i still like Heligoland more lol get rekt
Highlights: Protection, Karmacoma, Spying Glass, Sly, Heart Miser
