While Fivio’s debut is flawed and doesn’t necessarily capitalize on his potential and the post-Donda hype, it is a solid record that has a lot of enjoyable qualities.
Coming off “Off The Grid”, I and many other people were very excited to see what he could do on an album, as his performance on that song was incredible. But unfortunately, I didn’t love the singles. And while I do like this album, it just doesn’t hit the level I think it ... read more
With how quick DJ Drama got that Will Smith/Chris Rock reference in, this must have been finished last minute and it kinda shows, even if it's decent.
This is basically just a collection of throwaway tracks, and while these aren't bad and there are some solid songs here, it doesn't really come together as a whole and is pretty forgettable. I know it's not trying to do much, but it still is a little disappointing considering who is involved. This also got off to a really rocky start with the ... read more
This is a pretty enjoyable collection of tracks with some great guests and solid (for the most part) production from Pharrell, even if it can be kind of hit or miss.
I don’t really know who Nigo is outside of him being the BAPE founder, so I’m not sure if he is just curating this like DJ Khaled or if he’s actually involved in the production. Either way, this is solid overall and is what DJ Khaled albums should be, but it’s not really a cohesive album and there are a few ... read more
Haven't heard this yet but there's no way an album with "Emo Girl" on it and with that fucking album cover is good.
Edit: I was right, here’s the review:
As someone who actually thought TTMD was kinda decent and that the pop-punk style worked better for MGK than his rap stuff, this is bad. Lyrically this is obviously trash, his vocal performances suck, and the songwriting is groaningly bad. “Emo Girl” is an early contender for worst song of the year, and this is an ... read more
While “Melt My Eyez See Your Future” doesn’t quite hit the level of TA13OO for me, it’s still a great artistic statement and a great display of how versatile and talented Denzel Curry is.
Denzel Curry has been one of my favorite and one of the most exciting voices in rap for a while now. "Imperial", "Unlocked", and especially "TA13OO" are some of my favorite rap albums of the last 10 years, and even "ZUU" was a really solid ... read more
With her debut LP, Jensen McRae solidifies herself as one of the most promising and talented singer/songwriters out there, even if her sound isn’t completely realized yet.
Ever since I found Jensen McRae and her music a little over a year ago, I’ve been obsessed. Her viral Phoebe Bridgers parody-tweet-turned-fantastic-song led me down a rabbit hole of her music, just to find that she only had a handful of songs out. I did find her TikTok account though, where she routinely ... read more
I understand why people are underwhelmed by this, as I don’t quite think it reaches its full potential either, but for me “CRASH” is still a great pop album that shows how talented Charli XCX is and how she doesn’t necessarily need to be experimental to make great pop music.
Charli XCX is an artist whose music I have really enjoyed in the past, but I have never loved her music as much as other people. I also hadn’t really listened to her discography though. I had ... read more
This might be the most fun album listening experience I’ve ever had. Holy shit.
Recently, I’ve immersed myself in Rosalía’s discography. I was familiar with many of the songs on “EL MAL QUERER“, and I have loved all of her singles post-EMQ, but I had never heard either of her albums in full. And while I loved both of them, especially “EL MAL QUERER” which was fantastic, I still felt like she hadn’t hit her ceiling artistically and could ... read more
CHARLI XCX’S DISCOGRAPHY DIVE #5
“Pop 2” feels like the culmination of everything she was doing up until this point, and it’s great. And I know that I will like this more every time I hear it, so this is one I’m excited to let sit with me and see how much I end up enjoying it.
CHARLI XCX’S DISCOGRAPHY DIVE #4
While “Number 1 Angel” doesn’t wow me like “Vroom Vroom”, it still continues to be experimental, but while being more of a blend of her first two albums and her EP. And the result is pretty enjoyable, even if sometimes it can end up feeling samey or a little forgettable.
CHARLI XCX’S DISCOGRAPHY DIVE #3
After her first two albums, which I enjoyed but wasn’t super impressed with, I was waiting for the first time in her discography where she would go into a more experimental hyperpop space. And based off the amazing things I had heard about this, my expectations for this EP were high. And I wasn’t disappointed.
While it’s short, Vroom Vroom is a great and boundary pushing pop project. The production from SOPHIE sets a great foundation ... read more
CHARLI XCX’S DISCOGRAPHY DIVE #2
After enjoying but not being super impressed with “True Romance”, I was excited to hear “Sucker”, which has a few songs I do know. And while I do enjoy it and prefer it to True Romance, it still isn’t as boundary pushing or memorable as I usually expect from her. It has more memorable highlights than her debut for me, such as “Break The Rules”, “London Queen”, and “Boom Clap”, but it still ... read more
CHARLI XCX’S DISCOGRAPHY DIVE #1
Charli XCX is an artist whose back catalog I’ve always wanted to get into, but I just never have. I’ve heard her big singles, and her projects Charli and How I’m Feeling Now, and I’ve also really enjoyed the singles for the new album. So, with CRASH coming out at the end of the week, I decided to go through her discography and hear her projects for the first time, starting with her debut “True Romance”.
While this ... read more
ROSALÍA’S DISCOGRAPHY DIVE #2
After listening to “Los Ángeles”, it was time to finally hear “EL MAL QUERER” in full. I had heard many of the songs from it and loved them, especially “Malamente”, which is probably my favorite song from Rosalia. I was really excited to hear this, especially considering how much people love this album. And after listening a few times, I can see why as I also love it.
EL MAL QUERER is a fantastic album that ... read more
ROSALÍA’S DISCOGRAPHY DIVE #1
In anticipation of “MOTOMAMI”, I decided to finally listen to ROSALÍA’s two albums. I have either liked or loved all 4 singles from “MOTOMAMI”, I had heard many of ROSALÍA’s singles, and I had heard many of the songs off of “EL MAL QUERER”, and I loved all of them. However, I hadn’t heard anything from “Los Ángeles”, and I had never heard “EL MAL QUERER” ... read more
This project has such a unique combination of styles that I’m not sure I’ve heard before. Imagine Playboi Carti doing covers of Gesaffelstein produced The Weeknd songs. The production is fantastic, and I really like what Kaycyy does with it. I think the sound could be fleshed out more, but this EP is a solid starting place for potentially another great Kanye protégé.
Benny did it again.
In hip-hop, nothing has been as exciting for me as Griselda lately. Benny and Conway have released some of my favorite rap projects of last few years, and even while Westside Gunn is not one of my favorite rappers or anything, I appreciate his music as well. I haven’t heard Tana Talk 3, but Benny’s last album “Burden of Proof” is probably my favorite Griselda release to date. Because of that, I was already excited for this album, but after hearing ... read more
Edit: this has grown on me a little more. 75 to an 80.
Edit 2: this has grown on me so much lmfao. 80 to an 85
Original review:
WHO CARES? has some flaws and doesn’t quite reach its full potential, but the music here is really enjoyable and it definitely surpasses Pony.
Rex Orange County is someone whose music I have wanted to love, but it just has never really clicked with me. Flower Boy is my favorite album of all time, and I love his contributions to that album, but outside of that ... read more
