Doves - The Universal Want

FAVORITE TRACK: Broken Eyes

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Mother Silverlake

Yep... another album by a bird. When will they stop??

Universal Want is what I imagine the outcome would be if the lead singer of Imagine Dragons wrote The National's music.

I keep coming back to this review and writing nothing because... well. there's nothing TO write about. The Universal Want is a weird situation because this album has amazing vocals and... that's it. Subpar song writing and instrumentals but amazing ... read more

Rico Nasty - Nightmare Vacation
69

FAVORITE TRACK: Candy

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Loser

Man the worst thing about this record is that the best song is the first song so the whole project drops immediately after and only like three songs live up to it.

Nightmare Vacation is...... a lot. Like so much at once. In the past, I've really enjoyed some of Rico Nasty's work. However, a sound I feel that doesn't suit her is when Rico goes for a more trap sounding song than her usual, angry screaming kind of rap. Unfortunately, Nightmare ... read more

Sundots - sundots and the carpet store

FAVORITE TRACK: crazy

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: renting

Today I decided I must go back and listen to what started it all for me today: north-eastern lofi music. Acts like teen suicide, Alex G and elvis depressedly are who I mainly credit for the music taste I have now so today I wanted to shine some light on a smaller act in the same vein. sundots is the solo project of Drew Collins from Connecticut.

sundots and the carpet store is a mainly instrumental lofi album. I'm not crazy about ... read more

Adrianne Lenker - instrumentals

FAVORITE TRACK: mostly chimes

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: I mean... it's two songs so.... music for indigo I guess

Wrote a religion paper while listening to this. Highly recommend the experience.

I'm not a big instrumental music person and as beautiful as this is, I don't necessarily see myself going back to this. However, mostly chimes is so ethereal and atmospheric.

Gorillaz - Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez (Deluxe)
70

FAVORITE TRACK: MLS

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Simplicity

Ok this is just a review for the 6 bonus tracks on this version and I'm counting it as an EP so it's going on my EP list coooooolll.

The last thing that I could ever imagine happening is a JPEG and CHAI crossover and now that I have it I can't imagine a world without it. The bubbly and childish beat works so well with CHAI's happy sound and Peggy's gritty sound. It's such a smart crossover and it has the best lyrics of not only all the ... read more

FAVORITE TRACK: Momentary Bliss

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: The Lost Chord

So I've been listening to Gorillaz for a few years now. They have songs off each album that I absolutely adore but there really hasn't been a full Gorillaz project that has kept me intrigued the whole way through. This one was making me nervous because in the past I have always found Damon Albarn's voice the most appealing part of each Gorillaz project. But this one is so fun- with or without Albarn singing.

Strange Timez ... read more

Deftones - Ohms

FAVORITE TRACK: Genesis

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: The Spell Of Mathematics

Is it possible to get better with age? Because Deftones might be the proof of it.

Before listening to this, I listened to Around the Fur since I had never heard a Deftones project. So after hearing that, I was expecting something similar and this.... is not similar at all. In fact, it's better.

Ohms is a futuristic and thrilling alt-metal piece. The instrumentals on this are slick and Chino Moreno's vocals are the best ... read more

Poppy - A Very Poppy Christmas
55

FAVORITE TRACK: I Like Presents

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Silver Bells

Merry Christmas gays and girls !!

I applaud Poppy for deciding to make original Christmas music rather than taking already-made songs and using her Poppy-core sound to cover it (besides Silver Bells which is..... ugh). The lyrics for this are really bad. I love straight-forward songs but the lyrics for this try to stick to Poppy's childlike vibe she presents but also be serious love songs and it doesn't add up. The ... read more

Deftones - Around the Fur

FAVORITE TRACK: Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Rickets

This album cover lives in my mind rent-free because this is how me and all my friends take our pictures. I haven't heard this whole project before so before listening to the newest Deftones' project, I wanted to go back and give this one a listen.

Around the Fur is an anxiety-inducing nu metal project. The guitars on this are loud and intense and the whispy vocals that go into hardcore screaming create this really ... read more

Tyler, The Creator - IGOR

FAVORITE TRACK: GONE, GONE/THANK YOU

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: EXACTLY WHAT YOU RUN FROM YOU END UP CHASING

Tyler, the Creator's magnum opus. I don't know man I hate writing reviews on albums that are so critically acclaimed already and people have already written about because I have nothing to add that hasn't already been said and said better.

Anyways this is Carti's verse on EARFQUAKE, transcribed by me: "And that body roll don't give fuck 'bout 'nun she like 'fuck my lol' I might call ... read more

FAVORITE TRACK: my angel

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: none !!

songs is the solo project of Big Thief lead singer, Adrianne Lenker. After coming down from not one but two incredible release in 2020, I was excited to see what Lenker had in store with her own music.

Dude... I love this. I am currently on my third listen and the firs time I thought it was just fine- beautifully made but nothing special. Then the second time I listened I got it. Every song I wasn't a fan of from the first listen became ... read more

Bad Suns - Language & Perspective
98

FAVORITE TRACK: Transpose

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: None !!

Yeah, I would live and die for my bitch.

Language & Perspective has taken up about 42% of my brain capacity for five and a half years. This is the most fun indie-pop album put out in the past decade. It has amazing vocals, killer production, great lyrics. It's such a lively and cute album and it's just impossible to hate. The instrumentals on this are accessible to make it enjoyable for everyone but not generic to make it boring. ... read more

The Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

FAVORITE TRACK: To Forgive

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Tales Of A Scorched Earth

After the sadness of hearing CYR, I wanted to go back to my roots to review not only my favorite TSP album but one of my favorite albums of all time. I owe a lot to Mellon Collie- it shaped my music taste and is the main reason that I listen to so much art rock, dream pop and punk music now. This album has also completely shaped alternative rock- because how else can you release an album with 28 songs and have ... read more

Laura Marling - Song For Our Daughter

FAVORITE TRACK: For You

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: None

Rewriting my review for this hiiiii.

I knew I was gonna like this album just by reading the genre tags but this really blew me away. This album makes me just want to live in a cottage with my future wife and our one baby. This album is so peaceful, so cathartic, so beautiful I just want to cry to this album all the time. Like this is the most perfected breaking crying album.

Song For Our Daughter is beautiful. There really is no other word ... read more

The Smashing Pumpkins - CYR

FAVORITE TRACK: Adrennalynne

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Starrcraft

Yeah I'm surprised by this rating. Also a little embarrassed, too. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is one of my favorite albums ever made. Knowing this and knowing that this album isn't good and seeing how bad one of my favorite bands might be now, I was sure I was gonna hate this. In fact, my first draft of this review was basically tearing this whole thing apart. The expectations for this were basically nonexistent. But ... read more

Will Joseph Cook - Something To Feel Good About (Part 1)

FAVORITE TRACK: Something To Feel Good About

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: She Likes Me

Should've reviewed this before I reviewed the album oops. I just want to add this to my ranked EP lists so if you're curious- just read my review for this album. This EP just happens to have almost every song I like on the album on this EP.

Will Joseph Cook - Something To Feel Good About

FAVORITE TRACK: Something To Feel Good About

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Only If You

Will Joseph Cook is an artist that's been on my radar for a few years. He's had a few singles here and there that I've quite enjoyed but I've never listened to a whole project from him. Cook makes music very similar to artists like Declan McKenna and Kane Strang so I was curious to hear this album and see what a full Will Joseph Cook album is like.

Something To Feel Good About is essentially a feel good album. The ... read more

Spanish Love Songs - Brave Faces Everyone

FAVORITE TRACK: Kick

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Losers

Why did none of you tell me this was an emo album ?? As someone who unapologetically admits to liking Modern Baseball and The Front Bottoms- why did no one tell me this wasn't an indie folk, baroque pop album that I thought it was this whole time ?? I feel like a big dumb dumb.

Brave Faces Everyone is a loud and in-your-face emo punk album. Spanish Love Songs take inspiration from acts like The Hotelier, early Joyce Manor, Marietta and The ... read more

Miley Cyrus - Plastic Hearts

FAVORITE TRACK: Prisoner

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Bad Karma

Unlike a lot of other reviewers I'm seeing on here, I never had a period where I didn't like Miley Cyrus. I remember really enjoying Bangerz when it came out because it was such a rebellious album that scared my conservative mother. I think Cyrus has an incredible voice and in the past I've really enjoyed pretty much all the singles she's put out for her work. This album was no exception and the release of tracks like Midnight Sky and ... read more

Rav - I'm on to Me

FAVORITE TRACK: Channel F

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Dead End

Miley Cyrus this. Smashing Pumpkins that. Bitch, let’s talk about Rav.

Rav is someone I’ve been familiar with for awhile mainly because of his internet presence in let’s plays and podcasts and his friendship with Supermega. Rav’s music career, though, is a completely serious switch-up from the dude who goes on podcasts and talks about drinking ant piss. Rav and Kill Bill’s most recent album that came out ... read more
