I love when she says "I went out back with my good girl Daisy and shot her point blank in the head"

There's a lot more pop than Visions + earlier releases, but not to the nauseating effect of Art Angel's experimental Disney pop. Reminiscent of many moments in Halfaxa & Geidi Primies. Grimes, who is yet to go by 'c' at least professionally/on paper, finds her equilibrium as an artist. I do hope for more experimental endeavors in the future, but a sublime effort from one of 2k10 pop's more controversial figures.

I'm all for breathing room in a record, but this feels more like incapacitation than poised brevity. Let's be clear, Solange's faults are not egregious; I'm excited that she'll hopefully grow out of this 'sophisticated' art-heaux phase going into the next album -- so much of it feels like a need to distinguish her vision from her sister's, which is completely unnecessary.
And then.. "Do nothing without intention" we hear, as we're ushered into "Almeda", one of two memorable ... read more
Indie Rock albums like these are about as meritable as a mumble rap mixtape. There's no real innovation going on here except maybe the lead's vocals, which are grating to say the least. Not that I expect original composition or experimental aesthetics from this genre, but I don't understand the praise these bands get when their selling point is a scraggly voice and ambiguous lyrics that don't have real meaning until someone posts their own misguided interpretation on Genius.

A compilation of living room session-styled jazz covers mapping the lineage of Chilton's early influences. A real treat for AC fans, but a breezy listen for almost anyone else.

Slayyyter recalls Brit's Blackout era, but instead of lacing the mood with rebellion, she injects it with mania, which hardly makes its way around the album's circulatory system to give the body the craveable pop high the wannabe pop-star (acknowledging the motif, not a slight) advertises.
Moments of promise are outnumbered by moments of clutter, yet there's something so astute about the multiple nods to Britney - it's so timely! The generation of kids that grew up on Blackout and ... PCD ... read more
Might be my favorite her albums, but I'm a sucker for that jazzy, seamless, adult contemporary instrumentation, and Leslie's vocals work symbiotically with it. Your ego... let it die... and see yourself to her leisure suite.
Probably won't listen to this again, but big ups for bro-step taking a less commercial approach. The ideas are basic ones but they feel malleable and purposeful.
Would be a great show at the right venue...
