Discovery is a wacky yet groovy and smooth electronic hit from the legendary French duo. It's been solidified as one of the greatest electronic albums of all time and it's easy to see why, but age hasn't been kind to a slight minority of the track list.
The duds occur during the middle portion of the album, but that doesn't take away from the excellence of Daft Punk's genius in their best songs. One More Time is an incredible opener, and songs like Digital Love, Harder Better Faster Stronger ... read more
I'd never heard of Quadeca until Sisyphus randomly appeared to me as a YouTube recommendation around a week ago. I never got around to listening to it until I saw that this album released, and so my curiosity got the better of me. It blew me away, and consequently I listened to the entireness of From Me To You. And all I can say was that it really touched me, especially with how shitty this year has been for me. Although there were obvious cringey moments and shortcomings that should've ... read more
This is the EP for murderers who want music during sexy time. The production is top notch as per usual from clipping, but sometimes the lyrics get questionable or the sound kind of trails off especially on tracks like Hot Fuck No Love and Our Time. But hey, it's still a solid EP from the experimental laddies.
Favourite Song: Wriggle
Best: Intro, Shooter, Back Up, Our Time
Worst: Hot Fuck No Love
This was the first rock album that I ever listened to in full, and I love this thing. It's got nothing but bangers, and it just bangs unbelievably hard. It also talks about some interesting topics like mental health and identity, but honestly you come here for the amazing vocals, blaring guitars and smashing drums.
Like damn, these English lads can make good music. Whether it be from the chaotic and epic opener of I Was Just A Kid, to the triumphantly anthemic Amsterdam that is absolutely ... read more
Brass is such a weird yet intriguing listen. It feels like it should be horrorcore but at the same time it's more like a subtle horror behind it rather than an audacious and obvious one like with clipping.
Moor Mother is definitely somewhat of a poet. The way she delivers her lines and just her warped elegance makes her an incredible character, especially for the extremely out there sound of the LP. And Billy Woods further adds to the excellence of the album with his solid bars. This album ... read more
good kid, m.A.A.d city. Man, what an album. A beautifully constructed journey through the childhood and religious turning point of one Kendrick Lamar, all injected into a sound that's simply put dazzling.
Words can't really do this album justice, so I can't really talk about any of the tracks. Apart from Real. Real is bad. Like really bad. Like really really bad. Tracks is the biggest slip up that a near perfect album has ever done. Worse than Glitter Freeze on Plastic Beach. Worse than Barry ... read more
Lauryn Hill's soulful, glorious and near perfect album still holds up amazingly. It's hard to believe that this album is over 20 years old, especially because of how modern it feels due to certain topics and amazing production being consistently implemented throughout the listening. The modern topics/lyricism that I'm referring to is mainly in Doo Wop, where she tells girls to stop flaunting their assets and equally distributes the questionable behaviours of both gender.
Lauryn's singing is ... read more
Wolf is a cherished project by many, but no one can convince me that half of the track list is pretty much the same song. Still though, with all of the forgettable filler on here, there's some genuinely decent stuff from Tyler, it's just a shame that Wolf overall is pretty mediocre.
I like how aggressive Tyler gets since it gives him a burst of live and vigour into his attitude, but sometimes it can definitely make everything he's saying sound like the exact same thing of 'I hate everyone' and ... read more
Miles is a long haul, but it's a blissful and peaceful haul relished in its jazzy and old-school nostalgic aesthetic. It sounds timeless, and that's a great feat to have for a hip hop album since it helps to unite the old and new heads onto an incredible sound.
Blu is extremely connecting in telling his story and his mindset towards blackness and what it truly means to be an American. We get to hear his inspirations and his story to get to where he is, and it's inspirational to say the least ... read more
For my 69th review, I needed to review an album that was deserving of the title of 69, and I believe All My Heroes Are Cornballs is the perfect album for it. It's abrasive, non sensical, weird as hell and most definitely horny, so that's pretty much every criteria that it needed to hit. I really love this album.
I don't think it's even possible to describe either Veteran or Cornballs. They're both just mental. They're completely loopy and admirable due to them being so unattached to anything ... read more
Doris has split me. On one hand, Earl brings a distinctive depressed and deep sound to abstract rap. On the other, Earl is pretty boring with samey vocals and basic, unthought out beats. But one things for certain: Doris is an album.
The songs are forgettable since they don't have potent hooks or lyrics that stick out, and all but three or four of the songs have uninteresting beats that blend together post listening. All of the lyricism and vocals are swamped in strange noises, meaning you ... read more
Dirty Computer is most definitely an empowering album for three different communities, but in terms of actual music it's very lacking. There's some good political and social references on here that helps to depict a black, pansexual woman's experience in the world, but the massive overproduction and inclusion of mediocre romantic and sexual songs creates a large emptiness that the good aspects can't cover up completely.
Let's start with the positives: it definitely has a fascinating sound. The ... read more
Undoubtedly After Hours is the biggest album of 2020, but I don't feel it's as perfect as a lot of people are making it out to be. I mean don't get me wrong, it has some sensational songs like Blinding Lights, Heartless, Save Your Tears etc. but the first half of this album is just so forgettable and bland. It's only when you reach Heartless when it starts to actually become interesting, and actually I'd go as far to say that the last 7 songs discounting the interlude are perfect, it's just ... read more
The Prank Album is arguably a publicity stunt, but what isn't a stunt is just how much this thing bangs. Jay has some of his best beats and some potent lyrics on this album, but the inconsistency of quality does hurt the project as a whole.
The production as said before peaks at many points but also drops at a few. Some of the best beats include the audacious 99 Problems and the dazzling My First Song, and Jay's voice perfectly suits the sounds to make some great bangers. BUT, there are some ... read more
A sick, evil and demented adventure down the dark side of love, House Of Balloons excels in creating an atmosphere of illness and mania through Abel's emotional vocals and the uniquely warped sound of the mixtape.
With every passing song, I feel more and more defeated in hopes of fighting against the depressed and dragged down sound, but after a while you adjust to it and allow yourself to go down in the bottomless pits of drugs and sex with Abel. Despite the songs sounding extremely different ... read more
Ah, 2021, you've finally joined the party.
It took three months for 2021 to finally produce an album that has gaged my interest, and has me going back to it again and again via my own will. Smiling With No Teeth is extravagant. It's a real mix of so much into one condensed and solid package. This album is what Thundercat and Gorillaz's love child would sound like, and if it was born in full gold chains. It's amazing.
I seriously cannot stop smiling whilst listening to the whole track list. ... read more
Mental health is something that has haunted me for a few years now, predominantly with pretty bad levels of anxiety. In 2019, I wasn't in to music. I didn't believe that music could really provide anything special apart from simply just sounding great. But in 2020, KIDS SEE GHOSTS clicked with me. I don't know how, because its underlining messages of mental freedom are still blanketed by the layers of classic Kanye and Cudi antics all throughout. But it clicks, and it means a hell of a lot to ... read more
First thing's first, congratulations to Mr Paak for getting the Grammy! I know they mean literally nothing but hey it's still a pretty cool achievement for an incredible artist. Lockdown is my second favourite song of 2020 so it's amazing to see it getting the well deserved recognition that it needs.
Oxnard is glossy and stunning, and has just radiates infectious joy whenever you listen. However, Anderson definitely takes some liberties when it comes to some of the tracks and their production. ... read more
The Funny Fish Album is extremely weird and out there in terms of its overall sound, yet it still retains a great listenability for pretty much anyone. The bombastic instrumentals pair amazingly with Vince and his collaborators' voices, creating a wild ride from start to finish.
It's hard to describe the feel of the album but if I had to use a few I'd probably say it's bouncy and futuristic. The expressive and incredible electronic noise that is generated gives off a spaced out vibe, but Mr ... read more
