It's time for the 6th album in Black Sabbath's discography, Sabotage. Up to this point Black Sabbath have just been coming out with consistent bodies of work and delivering us some incredibly memorable tracks, I would hope the same would be the case with Sabotage. The latest stuff from them has been a bit more expansive in what they were trying to do sonically, the most ... read more

So I wasn't planning on doing this edition of the discography diaries for a while until I realised the plethora of albums, mixtapes and EPs that I'm going to have get through until I finish, so I thought "okay, let's just go ahead, do this and get it over with". So for this edition I've decided to not focus on a certain band or artist but rather a certain theme ... read more
'The Shape of Jazz to Come' is a creative and important record in avant garde and free jazz, while I don't enjoy it all the way through I can respect what Ornette Coleman was trying to do on here. It comes off a bit jarring on first listen but I'm sure that's subject to change. I appreciate Coleman as a saxophonist and his great improvisations among these compositions. I guess I wasn't interested in two tracks but I have a couple of standouts and it's a solid record nonetheless.

So yeah, we're continuing on with the dive through Black Sabbaths discography with the bands 5th album, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. So far Black Sabbaths output has been nothing but great, they keep pumping out solid project after solid project and I would hope they'd do the same with Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. I'd also hope that they'd try to toy with new sounds and ... read more
Charles Mingus creates an album that strives to be an outstanding force for its time, 'Mingus Ah Um' oozes charisma and displays incredible playing across the board, culminating to make not only a fun record, but a boundary pushing one too. The arrangements and compositions are fantastic, they're accompanied by some creative and well played improvisation and it all comes off natural to the respective musicians. It sounds like it hasn't aged a single day either and that alone proves how timeless ... read more

Moving on we get to talk about the fourth album from Black Sabbath, Vol. 4. So the first three Black Sabbath albums are incredible to say the least, they contained some great pieces of music that had some great playing, memorable songs and the first two were groundbreaking in creating the Metal genre. Those albums were the only ones that I had heard prior to my dive, so it's all new ... read more
'Blue Train' is an exciting, complex and well crafted hard bop album, it's a culmination of some of the best work 50s Jazz has to offer, it has some of the best musicians of their respective instruments and it all works in the best of ways. John Coltrane composed a collection of songs that are fun as hell to listen to and played with incredible proficiency, as a saxophonist Coltrane is impeccable and he led these talented musicians to do the same, it's easy to see why this album is held in high ... read more

Let's see if Black Sabbath can continue a streak of great albums with their 3rd studio album, Master of Reality. Jazz. A genre that I often gravitated towards and appreciated, but a genre that I knew very little about in terms of it's greatest minds and it's greatest bodies of work, I want to change that and I start that change with arguably the most iconic of them all, Miles Davis and his most iconic work Kind of Blue.
I found about about Miles Davis when I was skulking through various websites searching for what people often considered the greatest artists of all time, the greatest albums of all time ... read more

Another one of Black Sabbath's albums that I've heard prior to my dive and one that I remember loving, the first Black Sabbath album is fantastic to say the least, it was inventive for it's time and it kicks ass overall, so I'd imagine that normally people wouldn't ... read more

3 MORE TO GO! It's time to talk about David Bowie's 22nd album, Reality. I feel like that album cover shouldn't exist in this reality [please laugh]. So going into Reality all I wanted was another good album, I feel like the last leg of albums should be of quality and after listening to Reality it's actually not bad at all, it's actually pretty decent.
Reality essentially continues on with ... read more

Today we see ourselves on David Bowie's 21st album, Heathen. We're close to closing out David Bowie's discography and to say the least he has one of the most interesting discographies that I've had the pleasure of diving into, there's a couple of albums that I would consider duds but he has so many great albums that outweigh those duds. Going into Heathen I wasn't sure what I was expecting, ... read more

We're nearing the end of David Bowie's discography with 5 albums left after this one, Bowie's 19th studio album, Earthling. If you've been keeping up with my reviews on Bowie you'll know I haven't been enjoying his output since Tonight, I felt like the era after Let's Dance was a depression era of sorts that just saw Bowie pumping out mediocre album after mediocre album, I didn't really have much hope going into Outside as I thought we'd be getting ... read more
