it’s good, but not as much as people say. the only songs i actually enjoyed a lot was the first and the last one, while all the ones in the middle are good but i find them to get redundant after a bit.
all the songs are good to a degree, but kind of fall apart if i focus on them instead of playing them in the background while i’m doing something. it also drags on and gets boring after a bit considering how long it is, but still a good project overall.
Update: 20 -> 30
The mixing isn’t as horrible as I remembered it to be, but all my other points still stand.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
I don’t know if it’s just because I’m tired and my brain isn’t working properly, but this is terrible.
I mean, where do I start? Let’s talk about the lyrics first. Who wrote this? Why is it so redundant and repetitive? The lyrical structure is so off and wack and all over the place, some parts are extremely predictable and some ... read more
THE GLORY IS MINE!!!
It had been almost a year since my last listen to this album, and for whatever reason, I had an extremely strong urge to listen to this again. And, after 2 hours of music at an ear shattering volume, from the gentle pizzicato violins on Cloud of Forgetting, placing me in the middle of the sky walking on clouds, to the cold, gray, war-filled surface of Earth on Cloud of Unknowing, to the despairity expressed on When Will I Return, to the sonic bliss and ascension to heaven ... read more
if i’m being honest, i don’t think anything parannoul will drop in the future will surpass ‘to see the next part of the dream’, his last solo LP, but this is a damn good follow up to that. while the lyrical themes and instrumentation on the last record were more depressive and repetitive this album is a lot more colorful and optimistic, which makes for a better listening experience for most people.
if you haven’t already, listen to this record!
this 90 is just a placeholder for now bc i’ve yet to digest this album even 10%. this is so mind boggling and unpredictable and experimental, there’s a chance this will end up in my top 5 some day
swans discog dive 4/15: holy money
okay, so this is just greed but with better instrumentals.
this album starts out pretty strong with a hanging. this song is probably the most “out there” song from this album and greed because of the introduction new ideas such as group vocals, a different percussion style, and more religious aspects. this feels almost like a continuation of fool from the previous record, and holds up pretty well by itself. my only complaint is the novelty of all ... read more
i was actually impressed by some of the work on here, especially violet music, those strings were not expected. topaz caliber was also a highlight. apart feel those two, i felt like each song had one flaw in common: either the loops were boring or there wasn’t enough instrumental variation. needless to say, this is a good, short project that everyone should give a try.
a solid collection of cuts that never made it to their lps. theophant and torch i hate to hold are really good songs, but i feel like the other two tracks could have been longer and better structured. but again, it’s just a collection of outtakes, not an lp, which is why i’m rating this pretty leniently.

WE’RE IN HEAVEN!!
oh my. this album is heavy. not heavy like the last two swans albums heavy, this is a different kind of heavy.
this record is easily the most disturbing, entrancing, and atmospheric album in their discography so far. instrumentally, the songs a lot more sparse and, in turn, are a lot more atmospheric. on cop, swans really toned down the drums coming off of filth, but on greed, they turned them back up.
vocally, this album is their best ... read more
swans discog dive 2/15: cop
this album is similar to filth in a few ways. for one, the lyrics are still repetitive and dark. it’s also pretty slow and sludgy still, but that’s where the similarities end.
this album is a lot more tame than filth. the guitars are a lot less heavy, the vocals are less aggressive, the drums are minimal, etc. a lot of the time on filth the heaviness saved parts of the record from feeling too repetitive, but on cop, that heaviness is basically lost most ... read more
swans discog dive 1/15: filth
great industrial no wave record. every moment on this is sluggish, heavy, and dark. my only issue is that at times there’s not enough going on instrumentally to keep some songs engaging for their duration. this record definitely grew on me since my last listen around this same time last year.
favs: weakling, freak, power for power, blackout
I COULD GO OFF THE DEEP END
