The Weeknd - Thursday
86

The weakest of the three mixtapes, but still incredibly good. Some great songs and continues the aesthetic and is an important piece of Trilogy.

Fav tracks: Lonely Star, Life of the Party, The Zone, The Birds Pt 1, Rolling Stone, Valerie

Least Fav Tracks-Gone

Edit: coming back to this before the new album and I just adore this. It’s so important to me and makes me so nostalgic. 95 to a 100.

Fantano’s worst review in my opinion. A mixtape that changed R&B and influenced so many things that followed. Amazing production and great songs overall.

Fav Tracks: High For This, HOB/GTG, The Morning, Wicked Games, The Party & The After Party, Loft Music, Twenty Eight

Roddy Ricch - Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial
86

I have always though Roddy Ricch stood out amongst other melodic trap artists in his same lane. Something about his music was more interesting to me. The production, his melodies and voice, and his hooks are normally pretty good. Songs like “Die Young” and “Ballin” are some of my favorite songs of the last few years. So going into this hearing there was a (alleged) Kendrick feature, I was excited. Well, no Kendrick, but the album is still pretty good.

Trippie Redd - LIFE'S A TRIP
75

While it’s not a groundbreaking album or anything, I feel like it is an incredibly consistent project from Trippie and is still his best.

Fav Tracks: Taking A Walk, Missing My Idols, Forever Ever, Bird Shit, Bang, Dark Knight Dummo, Shake It Up, Gore

Least Fav Tracks- Underwater FlyZone (kinda)

ScHoolboy Q - CrasH Talk
65

Schoolboy Q had an opportunity here to come through with a great rap album in a year without many great ones. Instead, he drops his most generic and boring album to date. This album is a dip in quality for Q, but it’s still better than many other rap albums this year. There are a few highlights, and the production is decent. But there just isn’t much here, and it’s surprisingly boring. The features are pretty boring too. While not as interesting as his previous projects, Crash ... read more

YK Osiris - The Golden Child
45

To be honest, I’d only heard Worth It before this album, which I thought was decent. The only other thing I’d seen of him was when he horribly sung his way through the XXL freestyle and cypher. And going into this album it seemed like the classic label backed generic R&B/Rap-Sung album. (Kehlani feature and all). That’s basically what it is. This album isn’t terrible, it’s just painfully generic and boring. The production sounds nice but its what you would ... read more

Playboi Carti - Die Lit
88

Die Lit might be one of my favorite albums of all time. It’s almost so stupid and pointless that it’s good. I honestly couldn’t tell you why it’s so good. The production is incredible on every song, and Playboi Carti comes through with ridiculously catchy performances that are so simple. I can’t believe I enjoy Playboi Carti repeating “I’m on the top of the building” 42 times in a row but I do. I completely get why people hate this, but I just ... read more

Playboi Carti - Playboi Carti

I initially hated this album. I said all the things people that hate Die Lit say about it. My initial rating probably would have been around a 20 or a 30. I loved Die Lit though, so I decided to return to this. But even upon returning to this, I still though it was bad. But now listening a year later, I definitely like it a lot more. While not as good as Die Lit, this project is a decent effort with nice production (for the most part), and some catchy performances. This album does have ... read more

Cardi B - Invasion of Privacy
80

VERY unpopular opinion incoming:

Cardi B gets a lot of hate, most of it is deserving, but much of it unfair. She is not a great person, so that part is deserving. But her music gets a lot of undeserved hate. People don't like her voice, and they don't like that she doesn't write all of her music. Is Cardi B an amazing rapper? Absolutely not. Is she an ok rapper though who can come through with some quality songs? Yes. Not liking her voice is whatever, but Drake and Kanye have writers too, so ... read more

Migos - Culture II
65

This album completely throws away the shorter and concise project that Culture was for a long and bloated tracklist that didn't need to be this length. It is only 24 songs for streaming numbers. I'm sure there was a very good 10 track album somewhere in here, but this album has too many boring songs for me to care. The production is decent, but the Migos formula feels tired at this point. Also why is every song like 5 minutes? There are some highlights, but not enough to make this anything more ... read more

Migos - Culture
75

Migos's album formula works when it is executed in a focused and concise project. This is definitely the case for Culture. The album isn't too long, and the Migos supply enough quality hooks and flows to make this album a good listen. The production is normally good, although there are a few songs that feel a little too bland or generic. The highlights on this album are incredible though, and tracks like T-Shirt and Bad and Boujee show Migos at the top of their game. Culture isn't the most ... read more

Travis Scott - ASTROWORLD
95

Astroworld may not be as important to the genre as Rodeo, but it has some moments that really display Travis's ability to craft psychedelic trap bangers and melodic autotune ballads. From the spacey trap beat on Stargazing to the chill instrumental on Astrothunder, the production is incredible. The production doesn't have one specific sound, but I think it works in the album's favor. Travis also manage to make these songs feel cohesive, even if they don't necessarily go together sonically all ... read more

Huncho Jack - Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho
75

Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho is an album that had potential, but ultimately ended up being too predictable. While the production is pretty good and the album is mostly banger after banger, Travis and Quavo are pretty one-dimensional and average. There are many highlights, and every song is at least decent and listenable, but as a whole, it could have been more than it is.

Travis Scott - Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight
88

While many people consider this album to be considerably worse than Rodeo, I think this album is great. I like every song on here and think the album is just banger after banger. I understand it not being as artistic as Rodeo, or as cohesive, but this album has some incredible production and some catchy performances from Travis.

Travis Scott - Rodeo
94

Rodeo is probably the best trap album of all time The production is dark and melodic and spacey, and it goes along perfectly with Travis's autotune melodies. While I think BITTSM and Astroworld are amazing albums, this album is a near-perfect body of work that will be looked back on as one of the most influential rap albums of all time.

Fav Tracks: Oh My Dis Side, Pray 4 Love, Nightcrawler, Antidote, Piss On Your Grave, Maria I'm Drunk, Apple Pie

Freddie Gibbs & Madlib - Bandana
88

At first, I wasn't seeing the hype for the album. I felt the production was a little messy and I didn't really find anything too interesting. But with each listen, I like this album more and more. Don't get me wrong, I don't see how it's being called the best rap album since TPAB, or album of the year or anything. While I do wish I enjoyed it as much as everybody else clearly does, I've come to realize that I just really like it and I think its a very good album, but nothing more. The ... read more

Oliver Tree - Do You Feel Me?
75

Do You Feel Me? is an incredibly fun blend of many different genres that are brought together by the meme himself Oliver Tree. I was not expecting this to actually be good, but I enjoy this quite a bit. "Miracle Man", "Alien Boy" and "Hurt" are incredibly catchy tracks. While I do enjoy this project, there are a few mid songs that I don't love as much as others. Overall, this EP is one of my favorite projects of the year, even if this is a clear cash grab as most ... read more

Ameer Vann - EMMANUEL
75

Emmanuel is a project that left me conflicted, but I ultimately realized that I enjoy this project quite a bit. Yes, the production is pretty basic trap beats, and Ameer's flows aren't groundbreaking. The lyrics and the hooks are pretty decent. So why do I like this project so much? I think it's because Ameer was one of my favorites in Brockhampton, and this project is everything I loved about Ameer in a short little project. Especially after not hearing new content from him for a while, this ... read more

DaBaby - KIRK
65

Kirk was an opportunity for DaBaby to show why he is having such a big moment right now. Instead, it just ends up being Baby On Baby 2. There are some very good highlights on here, such as "Intro", "Bop" (although its Goin Baby 2), "Vibez", and "There He Go". There are also some very mid songs, and some absolutely terrible songs such as "Gospel" and "iPhone". The production is generally very one-dimensional and predictable, although I ... read more

BROCKHAMPTON - iridescence
90

Quick review:

While different from the Saturation albums, this is probably my favorite Brockhampton album. It is their most mature album and I love the vibe of it. I get why people don't like it as much but I personally enjoy this album the most out of their discography.

"@Pankace I don’t think personality necessarily means an energetic delivery or that she’s switching it up. She very clearly is having fun and having a song called Princess Diana after the memes of her being modern day Princess Diana and having many of the lyrics that she does on here shows her personality to me. The production also at times has personality, but I don’t think she’s devoid of it just because she kinda does the same thing over and over."
