EDIT: I still think this a fantastic project and still the magnum opus of his career objectively. But I feel this is not as good as when I first listened to it last year. So I just don't think it it is a 100.
This album is sheer perfection. I love every track on this album. I doubt I will give anything a 100 as much as I did for this album. It just deserves it. This is Kanye's magnum opus.
My expectations were low for this album and I'm glad I kept them low. This album is not good. The lyricism on this album is terrible compared to ye's previous works. There are some redeemable qualities in the production but it is not enough for me to go back to this album. Unless ye makes some significant changes to this album to improve this album I doubt I will ever go back to listen to it again. I'll just pretend this album never released.
It's a fantastic album. It is the culmination of Kanye's previous works all in this album. Exploring the life of Kanye and the choice between his family and the women lays a strong foundation for this album. I would like to give this album 100, because I love it so much, but there are just some songs in this album which stop me from doing that. Otherwise, it's one of my favourite albums of all time, easily. Kanye really struck gold with this album.
I feel if I give this a rating now, it would be disingenuous. I don't know how I feel about this album. Not that the album is bad, it's definitely something I just don't know how to give a definition of good for this album. At least currently.
Quick Review: Feeling a 8/10. This is a pop electronic extravaganza that I think for the most part is very solid.
Highlights:1999,2099, Shake It, Silver Cross
Will update this review once I give it another listen, but my first impressions are positive.
EDIT: Late to update this, but this album is really solid and I've updated the score to reflect this. The only song I haven't liked is Blame it on your Love.
Final Edit: I pretty much like every track on this project after giving it a full ... read more
EDIT: Giving it more listens, I think it's still a good project, but doesn't deserve an 85.
So I finished my first listen of The Sailor by Rich Brian. I was already pleasantly surprised by Yellow and Kids so I admit I had some expectations for this album which I didn't have previously. Overall, I think this album is great and a significant step up from Brian's previous work. His rapping is good the production is amazing and he's great at singing too. He definitely wears his influences on his ... read more
A solid debut album. Great production, some nice lyrics and vocals from Kali Uchis. Honestly there's not really much for me to say, I enjoyed the album thoroughly from start to finish. For a debut album, if this is the bar she's set for her career with, I can't wait for more.
FINAL EDIT: 100. Yes I gave it a 100. Objectively this album is not a 100 for me, but I love this album too much to give it any lower. So yes out of pure enjoyment and love for this album it is a 100. This is quite frankly my favourite Kanye project based on pure subjectivity.
EDIT: This album grew on me significantly, +10.
I've listened to this album multiple times and I have changed my rating accordingly. Being a kid in the 2000s, I have heard a few songs from this album, in particular, ... read more
EDIT: I've given this album another listen, I like it more. 65 was a little low for this album. I have updated the score.
So this is my first time listening to the artist Denzel Curry. This album, ZUU is left me disappointed. I feel Curry has some great lyricism, a favourite lyric of mine from this album "Used to be on LSD, but now my life is all a trip." but marred by sub-par production on most of this album. For example, the song "Automatic" sounded like your average rap ... read more
